In 2011, the Division of Special Needs Housing at the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) began to use EnergyScoreCards™ for evaluation of new and renovated housing properties in New York City.

Staff analyzed overall energy usage as well as heating, hot water, cooling and baseload electricity for 13 “conventional” buildings and 12 “high performance” buildings. The automatic utility bill retrieval built into EnergyScoreCards slashed the data entry time, as compared to HPD's previous review methods. The results were clear: the “high performance” projects were shown to be using approximately 19% less energy overall, and roughly 28% less energy for heating.
Our user-friendly analytical platform confirmed the value of HPD’s “high performance” approach—laying the groundwork for substantial energy savings on the agency’s portfolio going forward. See how EnergyScoreCards compares energy performance.
